Prince George ranked 20th worst for crime in Canada

Prince George has inched upwards in the annual crime severity index rankings from Stats Canada.

2015 numbers released this week put PG at 20th for both the overall and violent crime indexes. Compared to 2014, that is up one spot overall and six on the violent crime index. The rankings are still down from 2012, where PG was 17th overall and 16th worst for violent crime.

To develop the index Stats Canada assigns a weighted value to each reported offence based on severity, taking population into account.

There are just five cities in BC with a higher overall crime rate; Williams Lake (4), Dawson Creek (10), Fort St John (13), Langley(16) and Prince Rupert(17)
