Bye Bye Visa? Wal-Mart to phase out the credit card at it’s 400 stores in Canada

Paying for purchases with your Visa card at Wal-Mart’s across BC will soon become a thing of the past.

Wal-Mart intends to ban the major credit car due to its on-going battle with Visa Canada over high process payments which costs them $100 million dollars a year.

Senior Director of Corporate Affairs, Alex Roberton says at some point, the ban will be Canada wide. “Our intent has always been to roll out the change with payment restricting Visa to all stores across the country with no timeline set for the next phase of the rollout.”

Wal-Mart has 29 locations in BC including one in Prince George.

The major retailer announced on Thursday it’s 16 stores in Manitoba will no longer accept Visa as of October 24th.

That’s on top of a Visa ban announced in July at its 3 locations in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

For the time being, people who shop at Wal-Mart in BC can continue to pay for purchases with their Visa card until further notice.
