Tips from Northern Health on keeping cool

It’s going to be another hot one Tuesday and Northern Health has a few tips on how you can stay comfortable.
Doctor William Osei says a common mistake people make is that they wait too long to drink water or find a cool spot when things get too hot.
“You can go to a mall, do some shopping where it’s cooler” he says, also suggesting the pool. “If your fan is blowing only hot air, use other means to make your air cooler, by using wet towels , bowls of water [near the fan], showering, so that way the fan will blow around cooler air, cooling you down.”
Osei warns that though heat stroke can most easily affect children and the elderly, it can still hit anyone who is active outside.
“We ask active individuals to get closer to where you can get cool,” he says. “We ask you not to stop exercising, but you should do it in moderation and when you get too hot, find a cool area.”
He also says neighbours should check on each other, especially the elderly.
Tuesday is going to be another hot one with a daytime high of 34 degrees and a high UV index.
