The first major snowfall of the year is wrecking havoc on Highway 16.

Multiple accidents are being reported both east and west of Vanderhoof.

A school bus and a car have collided at Highway 16 and Mcnolty Road. RCMP say injuries to the bus occupants are minor in nature and limited to back pain. SD91 has transferred the students away from the crash scene.

The bus was from SD54 and was transporting students from Smithers and Burns Lake to a rugby tournament in Prince George. Students will be taken to NVSS to warm up as the SD91 transportation department works on arranging a bus and driver to bring students and coaches home.

Another accident at Highway 16 and Saranovich involving three cars has completely snarled traffic to a crawl. Motorists appear to be using Derksen as a detour.

Drivers without snow tires are being advised to avoid the highways completely.
