A pair of teenagers got a bit of a scare while playing in the woods off of North Nechako Road this weekend.
Sergeant Troy Durand with the Prince George RCMP says they were called out for a report of two men running around with rifles around 5pm on Saturday.
“So we went in and were able to locate the youth – we had no idea what we were getting into there – who had airsoft rifles.”
The call resulted in a relatively major police response, one that puts officers in a difficult situation given the nature of the initial 911 call.
“These looked very real, they didn’t have the red tips or anything like that, if they want to mark them. Basically if you ever encounter the police and you are carrying one of those; listen to what the police commands are.”
After determining that the teens were carrying airsoft rifles, Durand says officers spoke to the youth and sent them on their way.
