Nurses union chair says more full time positions needed

Even though government stats show 25,000 nurses will be needed by 2022, the B-C Nurses Union is saying now is the time to fill vacant positions.

Northeast Region Chair Jackie Nault says currently there are nursing shortages across the Northern part of province.

She says this is more common in smaller communities like Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Chetwynd.

Nault says its difficult for some nurses to work part time in more expensive Northern BC communities.

She says the health authority needs to create positions to increase the number of nurses on staff.
