Tim Bennett elected as new School District 57 Chairperson

The Prince George School District has selected its new Chairperson and the voting is unanimous.

Trustee Tim Bennett will take over the head seat on SD 57’s school board and says he’s humbled by the nomination.

“I have 6 or 7 outstanding trustees on the board who any and all could’ve taken on this role, so I’m just thankful for the opportunity, the faith of the board, and do work on behalf of the almost 13,000 students.”

Bennett will lead the board for the 2017 calendar year as the service is a one-year term; he wants to let Prince George know that public education is very important to him.

“We gave a lot as a district we have to focus on. We have to implement the new strategic plan; we have a new framework to report; we have a new curriculum that our staff in the schools are working really hard to implement.”

He takes over Trustee Tony Cable, who’s held the position for the last two years.

Cable says he’s thrilled with his board’s selection.

“I think it’s great that Tim Bennett’s able to carry on and I have every confidence in him and Trish Bella’s leadership.”

Trustee Trish Bella has been voted as the new vice-chairperson, taking over Bennett’s old position.

Trustee Sharel Warrington is tasked with the duties as the new provincial councillor for the BC School Trustees Association (BCSTA) and the new representative for the BC Public School Employer’s Association (BCPSEA).
