Community rallies behind local business owner at City Council

It was standing room only at city council Monday evening as supporters watched local business owner Kelsey Polnik make his case for a number of amendments to Prince George’s ‘Second Hand Dealers and Pawnbroker Bylaw No 8098’.

After presenting a petition with over 1200 signatures, the owner of Game Quest asked for the city to reduce the 30 day holding period on incoming second hand merchandise to 7 days, while easing restrictions that stop him from purchasing inventory outside his store or after 8pm.

Polnik said he is happy with how things went,

“That was the outcome I wanted” said Polnik, “It was perfect. They are going to look into it and hopefully present something much better than what we currently have at the next council meeting”

He is also thrilled with the support he has received from the community;

“It was fantastic…It was great to turn around and see every single seat full and people still looking for seats”

Many councillors voiced interest in making changes to the bylaw while the RCMP and city bylaw department voiced opposition in written form.

Pending a comprehensive report on the topic, city council hopes to decide on the amendments next month.
