Two Prince George Spruce Capital boxers will fight on a professional card Friday in Edmonton. 24-year-old Marcus Hume will make his pro debut in the 135 pound lightweight division in a scheduled four rounder against 2-0 Mike McWilliams of Ontario. 23-year-old Thomas Spiers, who had a draw in his first pro fight, will step into the ring against Ilis Anin of Montreal (0-0) in a 175 pound light heavyweight bout. Both Hume and Spiers are coached by Wayne Sponagle.

–The start of the curling season in Prince George has been delayed about six weeks. The Board of Directors with the PG Golf and Curling Club issued a news release that during the start up of the Ice Plant a major equipment failure occurred. The new equipment should be available for the ice to be ready for play by mid-November.

–The Prince George Cougars have hired Craig Hyslop as an Athletic Therapist. The 28-year-old Hyslop joins the Cougars after spending the last two years with CBI, a local health services centre. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BKIN-Athletic Therapy degree in the spring of 2012. Last season, Hyslop worked with the Cariboo Cougars in a clinical setting, assessing and treating acute injuries with a focus on speeding up the recovery process and getting the players back into the lineup as soon as possible.

–The Prince George Cougars and Spruce Kings conclude their pre-season schedule this weekend. The Cougars play in Kamloops Friday while the Spruce Kings have a home and home against the Vipers; Friday in Vernon and Saturday at the PG Coliseum. The Cougars and Spruce Kings begin their regular season on the road Saturday, September 20th.

–The UNBC Timberwolves will play Canada West soccer games this weekend in Vancouver. The UNBC men and women face the UBC Thunderbirds Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The Lady T-wolves are 0-0-2 while the UNBC men are 1-1.
