The Prince George Cougars won their regular season opener 6-3 over the Portland Winterhawks. Chase Witala notched a goal and two assists for the Cougars, who play tonight (Sunday) at Tri-City.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings started their season with a 6-4 triumph over the Nanaimo Clippers at the BCHL Showcase in Chiliwack. Cole Todd tallied twice for the Spruce Kings who meet Alberni Valley today (Sunday) in Chilliwack.

–The Cariboo Cougars erased a 4-2 deficit with five goals in the third period to win 7-4 over the Valley West Hawks in the BCMML opener for both teams. The rematch goes today (Sunday) at 11:15am at Kin 1.

–The UNBC Timberwolves lost a pair of Canada West soccer doubleheaders to the Fraser Valley Cascades. Fraser Valley beat the UNBC men 2-1 (Saturday) and 3-1 (Friday). The Cascades outscored the Lady Timberwolves 3-0 (Saturday) and 2-1 (Friday). UNBC is 1-5 in the men’s standings and 0-4-2 in the women’s division.

–In Northern High School Football: Duchess Park crushed Kelly Road 40-6.
