Local literacy projects to receive helping hand during Raise-a-Reader Day

Anyone picking up their morning coffee or breakfast can also snatch a newspaper during their drive to work on Wednesday.

Representatives from Integris, Telus, Kiwanis Club of Prince George, UNBC Timberwolves, Prince George Native Friendship and other organizations will be out for Raise-a-Reader Day in Prince George to fundraise for local literacy projects that serve children and families in support of Raise-A-Reader Day from 7:00 to 9:00 am.

“So all of the money raised on Raise-a-Reader Day will go to support projects in our community that encourage or support literacy for children and families,” said Amy Dhanjal, Prince George Public Library spokesperson.

Dhanjal adds the fundraiser has seen its fair share of success over the past decade. “Since 2007, the Raise-A-Reader campaign has raised over $325,000 for literacy projects in Prince George and last year we were able to distribute $23,000 to 19 local organizations to help with projects like the Family Lending Library.”

The other program to receive assistance is the Neighbourhood Scholars Preschool at the Northern BC YMCA.
