Prince George celebrating wildfire volunteerism this weekend

Evacuees hear from the City, organizations on the status of BC Wildfires in a town hall meeting | Kyle Balzer, My PG Now

The City of Prince George took in more than 10,000 wildfire evacuees from the Cariboo and Central Interior during the crisis this summer.

As a way of saying ‘Thank you,’ council has organized a free outdoor concert and barbecue dinner at Canada Games Plaza this weekend.

Mayor Lyn Hall is wanting to extend his gratitude to everyone involved.

“Whether you shook somebody’s hand, or smiled at them, or welcomed them to Prince George, or you invited people into your home, or you were volunteer at registration; whatever you did, we want you to come out because we want to show our appreciation.”

We asked Mayor Hall if this event would be all there is to celebrate the community’s volunteerism.

“How do you thank people enough for what they did?” he replied.

“We felt that this was probably the best way we could to get everybody together, and didn’t want to wait until next spring because this is still really fresh in everyone’s mind.”

Musical acts include Juno Award-winning rock group Glass Tiger, Barney Bentall, and DJ Ant.

The ‘Thank You PG’ party is slated for Saturday from 4PM to 9:30PM.
