PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

Defenceman Dennis Cholowski will make his debut in a Prince George Cougars uniform on Friday when the 0-2 Cats visit the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The 19-year-old was re-assigned to the Cougars on Tuesday by the Red Wings after playing three NHL pre-season games with Detroit.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The BCHL Mainland Division-leading Prince George Spruce Kings hit the road for the second straight week.

The 4-1-1-0 Spruce Kings play at Surrey Friday, Coquitlam Saturday, and Merritt Sunday afternoon.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The 0-2 Cariboo Cougars visit the Vancouver NE Chiefs Saturday and Sunday in Richmond.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

Evening games have been moved to the afternoon for the UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team.

The Timberwolves host the UBC Thunderbirds Friday at 3PM and Saturday at 1:30PM at the North Cariboo Fields.

 

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL:

Seven teams compete in the Jon Bragg senior boys volleyball tournament Thursday to Saturday at College Heights Secondary.

The top two teams in the round robin meet in the Saturday 5PM final.

Schools competing include PGSS, College Heights, DP Todd, Duchess Park, Kelly Road, Bulkley Valley Christian (Smithers), and Centennial Christian (Terrace).

 

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

Josh Donaldson hit two of four Toronto homers as the Blue Jays whipped the Boston Red Sox 9-4.

The Red Sox lead the American League East by three games over the New York Yankees, with each team having five to play.

The Yanks crushed Tampa 6-1 to clinch home-field advantage if they end up in the Wild Card game.

The Minnesota Twins can clinch the second and final American League Wild Card spot with one more win or a Los Angeles Angels loss.

The Colorado Rockies lead the second National League Wild Card spot by one-and-a-half games over Milwaukee and two-and-a-half over St. Louis.

All three teams won on Tuesday; both the Brewers and Cardinals have a game in hand over the Rockies.

The Chicago Cubs, who lost 8-7 to St. Louis on Tuesday, can wrap up the National League Central Division title with a win or a Milwaukee loss.

 

FOOTBALL:

Former NFL running back Trent Richardson has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Richardson was selected third overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Riders are last in the CFL in rushing yards.

 

NBA:

The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to sign 12-time NBA All-Star Dwyane Wade to a one-year, $2.3 million contract.
