PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The 0-2 Prince George Cougars visit the 1-0 Seattle Thunderbirds tonight to begin a three game road trip.

19-year-old defenceman and Detroit Red Wings 2016 first round pick, Dennis Cholowski, will make his debut for the Cougars, who also play Sunday in Portland and Wednesday in Kamloops.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings play three road weekend games in less than 48 hours.

The 4-1-1 Spruce Kings visit 1-4-1-1 Surrey tonight, 0-4-1 Coquitlam Saturday and 1-6 Merritt Sunday afternoon.

PG is 2-0 against Surrey and 1-0 vs. Merritt this season.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The BC Major Midget League has a  Showcase weekend in Richmond.

The 0-2 Cariboo Cougars visit the 0-2 Vancouver NE Chiefs Saturday at 6PM and Sunday at 10:15AM.

 

NHL EXHIBITION:

Anders Nilsson made 30 saves to help the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-1 exhibition victory over the Calgary Flames.

The Canucks (3-3-1) play their final pre-season game on Saturday when they host the Edmonton Oilers.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The 3-4-3 UNBC Timberwolves host the 5-1-1 UBC Thunderbirds in a Canada West men’s soccer doubleheader; this afternoon at 3 and Saturday at 1:30PM at the North Cariboo Fields.

The 2-4 Lady Timberwolves are out of town and will play at 5-1-1 Victoria tonight and at 6-1 UBC Sunday in women’s soccer.

 

NFL:

Aaron Rodgers tossed four touchdown passes to lead the Green Packers to a 35-14 convincing win over the Chicago Bears.

The 3-1 Packers lead the NFC North while the 1-3 Bears are last in the same division.

 

CFL:

A pair of East-West match-ups tonight in the CFL.

6-6 Saskatchewan visits 5-8-1 Ottawa followed by 3-10 Montreal at 11-1-1 Calgary.

The Stampeders have won nine straight.

The 6-7 BC Lions have the bye this week.

 

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

The AL East leading Boston Red Sox need one more win or a New York Yankees loss to clinch the division.

The Red Sox are home against Houston on the final weekend of the regular season while the Yankees entertain the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Colorado Rockies are two games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers with three to play in the race for the second National League wild card spot.

The Rockies host the LA Dodgers tonight while the Brewers visit the St. Louis Cardinals.

 

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL:

Seven teams, three of them provincially ranked, are competing at the John Bragg Sr. Boys volleyball tournament at College Heights Secondary.

The final is scheduled for 5PM Saturday.
