Forwards Jansen Harkins of the Prince George Cougars and Brogan O’Brien of the Prince George Spruce Kings are on the Central Scouting Service (CSS) Preliminary 2015 Players to Watch list. Harkins is a first round candidate for next year’s NHL Draft after receiving an A rating. O’Brien earned a C rating, which means he is a projected prospect for the 4th to 6th round.

–The Detroit Red Wings have sent defenseman Marc McNulty to the Prince George Cougars. McNulty, who missed the first two road games, returns to the Cougars line-up Friday in their home opener against the Kelowna Rockets.

–In a one for one trade, the Prince George Spruce Kings acquired 19-year-old defenseman Adam Clements from the Whitby Fury of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in return for 20-year-old forward Michael Buonincontri. Last season with the Fury, the 5’10” 193 pound Clements notched seven goals and 35 assists for 42 points. He will join the Spruce Kings in time for a 3-game road trip this weekend that begins Friday in Coquitlam. Buonincontri had been acquired by Prince George in the summer from the Smiths Fall Bears of the CCHL.

–The Major Midget Cariboo Cougars visit the Vancouver NE Chiefs Saturday (9:30am) and Sunday (8:30am).

–The UNBC women’s basketball team will host Trinity Western Thursday at 8pm and Friday at 6pm in exhibition games at the Northern Sport Centre.

–The UNBC soccer teams host the University of Victoria Saturday and Sunday at noon and 2:15pm.
