PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars ended up 1-2-2 on a five-game homestand following a pair of 4-1 losses to the Kamloops Blazers.

The Cougars are 3-5-2 after 10 games, including a 1-4-2 mark on home ice.

They play their next seven on the road beginning Friday in Edmonton.

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

Portland Winterhawks                     8         Kelowna Rockets                          2          Sun

Winterhawks are 8-1 with their only loss against the P.G. Cougars.

BC DIVISION STANDINGS:

Victoria, 10 games = 8-1-1 (17 points)
Kelowna, 9 games = 4-3-1-1 (10 points)
Prince George, 10 games = 3-5-2 (8 points)
Vancouver, 8 games = 2-4-1-1 (6 points)

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings picked up one out of a possible four points in their two weekend road games.

A 4-3 loss in Surrey was followed by a 5-4 overtime loss in Langley.

The 7-4-2-1 Spruce Kings play their next game Friday in Powell River against the Island Division-leading Kings.

The 5-2-1 Major Midget Cougars extend their winning streak to four and their unbeaten streak to six following the doubleheader sweep of the Silvertips.

Golden Knights off to a 4-1 start.

The Vancouver Canucks went 1-2-1 on a season opening four-game homestand that concluded with a 5-2 Saturday loss against Calgary. The Canucks play their next game Tuesday in Ottawa.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Men’s Soccer)

The UNBC Timberwolves play their final regular season game this afternoon at 2 in Abbotsford against the Fraser Valley Cascades. This makes up for Saturday’s scheduled game in Prince George that was called off because of poor field conditions. The UNBC men are 4-5-6 while Fraser Valley is 4-6-3.

(Canada West Women’s Soccer)

The UNBC Lady Timberwolves followed a 1-0 win over Manitoba with a 0-0 tie against Winnipeg. The UNBC women are 3-7-2 with two games left. They are a point ahead of Thompson Rivers for the last playoff spot in the Canada West  Pacific Division.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

(Second game in the best-of-seven NLCS)

Los Angeles Dodgers                  4           Chicago Cubs                                   1

Justin Turner hit a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Dodgers lead 2-0. They won the opener 5-2.

(ALCS)

Game three in the American League Championship Series will be played tonight at Yankee Stadium with the Houston Astros ahead of the Yankees 2-0. The Astros won the first two games by the same 2-1 score.

 

NFL:

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone that could sideline him for the season.

First loss of the season for the 5-1 Chiefs, leaving the NFL without an unbeaten team.

New York Giants                         23             Denver Broncos                            10

Giants first win leaves the 0-6 San Francisco 49’ers and Cleveland Browns as the only teams without a victory.

Week six concludes tonight with 2-3 Indianapolis at 2-3 Tennessee.

 

CFL:

The B.C. Lions are 6-9 and barely alive for a playoff spot after their 26-20 loss in Winnipeg. The Lions need to win their remaining three games and have 8-7 Saskatchewan lose its remaining three in order to secure a post-season berth. The Blue Bombers and Edmonton Eskimos clinched a playoff berth on Saturday.
