Prince George Cougars defenceman Dennis Cholowski has been chosen to play for Team WHL against Team Russia in the Canada Russia Series November 6th in Moose Jaw, and the 7th in Swift Current.

The UNBC men finish the regular season with a 500 record of 5-5-6.

Tofa Fakunle scored in the 53rd minute on a rainy afternoon in Abbotsford.

It was a make-up from Saturday’s scheduled game in Prince George that was called off because of poor field conditions.

The Timberwolves can make the Canada West playoffs if the University of Victoria earns three points or less and UBC Okanagan earns one point or less in their remaining two games.

Victoria (5-7-1) plays Fraser Valley (4-7-3) and Trinity Western (6-4-4).

UBC Okanagan (5-5-3) has a pair of games against TRU (5-3-5).

 

(Canada West Women’s Soccer)

The UNBC Lady Timberwolves have two road games left in Canada West women’s soccer: Saturday at Thompson Rivers University and Sunday at UBC Okanagan.

The 3-7-2 UNBC women are holding down the 6th and final playoff spot in the Pacific Division, a point ahead of Thompson Rivers.

The Lady Timberwolves can qualify for the playoffs with a win over TRU (3-8-1), or a draw against TRU and a win against UBC Okanagan (1-9-2), or a loss to TRU plus a victory over UBC Okanagan and a tie between TRU and Grant MacEwan (7-4-1).

 

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars are 3-5-2 after their first 10 games.

The Cougars play their next seven on the road starting Friday in Edmonton.

They are not back on home ice until November 10th against Everett.

Kelowna, 9 games = 4-3-1-1 (10 points)

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The 7-4-2-1 Prince George Spruce Kings lead the BCHL Mainland Division by a point over the Langley Rivermen.

The Spruce Kings play their next three games on the Island starting Friday in Powell River against the 8-3-1 Kings.

The Cariboo Cougars are unbeaten in six and in 4th place in the BC Major Midget League, but they are only two points out of first.

The 5-2-1 Cougars visit the 2-4 Thompson Blazers Saturday and Sunday in Kamloops.

Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson will make his season debut tonight at home against the Vancouver Canucks.

Karlsson had ankle surgery in the off-season; the Senators went 3-0-2 without their all-star defenceman.

The 1-2-1 Canucks are starting a five-game road trip.

Sniper Leon Draisaitl has been placed on injured reserve by the Edmonton Oilers.

Draisaitl is dealing with a concussion and an eye problem.

 

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

Astros lead 2-1 with game four this afternoon (2 p.m. PDT) at Yankee Stadium.

Game three in the National League Championship Series will be played tonight at 6 in Chicago with the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the Cubs 2-0.

 

NFL: (Final game in week six)

Titans are 3-3 while the Colts slip to 2-4.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will have surgery on his broken right collarbone.

Rodgers is out indefinitely, perhaps the season.

 

CFL:

There’s just three weekends left in the CFL regular season.

Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Ottawa and Toronto have locked up five of the six playoff spots.

The 8-6 Saskatchewan Roughriders need one more win or one more loss by the 6-8 BC Lions to secure the final post-season berth.

The Lions host Edmonton Saturday while the Riders visit Calgary Friday.

The Stamps have won 11 in a row.

 

NBA:

The NBA regular season tips off tonight with a pair of games: Boston at Cleveland (Kyrie Irving against his former team) followed by Houston at Golden State (Chris Paul makes his debut for the Rockets).

The Toronto Raptors open Thursday with a home game against the Chicago Bulls.
