Council recognizes 2017 Citizens of the Year

The Prince George Community Foundation announced its five recipients for the 2017 Citizens of the Year | Kyle Balzer, My PG Now

The five recipients of the Prince George Citizen of the Year Award were invited to Council Monday night.

Council then honoured the band of volunteers for the work they’ve done.

“I love it when we have moments like this to honour people like that,” says Councillor Garth Frizzell.

“When they get into City Council and we get a chance to hear about all the things they’ve done, it’s spectacular.”

This year’s recipients are Ron and Dee Neukom, Selen Alpay, Harold Hartshoren, and Shawn Rice.

“These are volunteers of extremely high caliber, people who have been in the community, helping the environment, helping social issues, helping all sorts of policy issues, these are people who give their time.

“These five individuals have made Prince George a better place.”

Citizen of the Year is awarded by the Prince George Community Foundation and is given to those who go above and beyond in community volunteerism and philanthropy.

“These are people are maybe uncertain about even being here.

“They’re not in it for the acclaim and they’re not in it for the recognition, they just do it because it’s the right thing to do for Prince George.”

There was also a gala held for the recipients in earlier this month.
