Premier John Horgan spoke today about a ride-sharing bill for the province.
He says he has spoken to Green Party Leader Andrew Weaver about the bill, although there are over half-a-dozen pieces of legislation needing amendments to change the status quo.
“It’s not easy, we would have hoped to have been able to move quickly on the file,” explains Horgan.
“We want to make sure, not that we do it quickly, but that we do it correctly.”
Also noted was the Liberal’s lack of progress made on the issue when they were working on it.
“I remember last March having a gathering with the media and hearing for the first time that the BC Liberals had claimed to have made progress on the file; when we took government we found that they had not made a great deal of progress.”
Horgan says he wants to be able to work together with the Green Party caucus and Liberal caucus to get legislation completed.
“I’m hopeful that when I see Mr. Weaver’s bill and other amendments coming forward that we’ll be able to move them quickly and pass them unanimously as a parliament that’s working for everybody.”
This reaction comes days after Transportation Minister Claire Trevena announced ride-sharing would not be available in B.C. in 2017, despite being promised in the NDP’s election campaign.
Instead, the plan is to have consultants make recommendations on the issue by spring 2018.
