Location and Date Changed for 2018 Relay For Life

A couple of changes are coming to the 2018 relay for life in Prince George.

After 25 years the venue will be moved from Masich Place to Exhibition Park.

The new Relay track will be bordered on the south by CN Centre, on the west by Kin 1 and on the north by the Exhibition sports Centre.

When asked if the move is because Masich Place is allegedly behind schedule, Coordinator Aimee Cassie says they just wanted a change for the 26th anniversary.

“For us we knew that our 25th anniversary was coming up and we didn’t want to change anything leading up to that 25th anniversary because that is so important, we wanted to pay respect to where Relay started. And then for 26 we knew we had to do something different and something exciting.”

There were also other problems with holding the event at Masich Place Cassie added.

“Key things we always come back to is parking is always an issue for Relay. Some of the other things, accessibility of the track. We always invite survivors to come down and walk the victory lap with us, but they’re having to park quite a distance away.”

Along with the change of location the date has been moved from Mothers Day weekend to the second weekend of June after receiving feedback from the public on how the weather would be more favourable and they would have more time to fundraise.

Relay for life is the Canadian Cancer Society’s largest fundraiser and for four consecutive years, the Prince George edition of the Relay has generated the most money in all of the country.
