Teens Get Opportunity To Talk About Careers At Job Chats

The Prince George Public Library is holding its third annual Job Chats to help teens explore new career ideas today.

This event gives youth the chance to have a one-on-one conversation with professionals to learn what credentials they need for certain careers.

This is a great way for students to get exposure to different opportunities explains Youth Services Heather Gloster.

“There’s just tons of jobs out there that, you know, unless someone in your family does it you might not know about. So that’s another thing I’m really trying to get teens to think about like, oh hey yeah I could do that, and think about jobs beyond what their parents do.”

Some of the professionals range from forestry, construction project coordinator, firefighter, RCMP officer, curator, coder, graphic artist, lawyer, florist, physiotherapy assistant, librarian and radio DJ.

“It’s just a really great opportunity for youth to talk to professionals and truly the people that do the job, not at some of these big career fairs where there’s an HR or representatives standing there that doesn’t have an idea of what it means to actually be a forester out in the field.” Gloster says.

Last year Job Chats brought out 100 teens to the event.

It will be held at the Keith Gordon room from 1:30-3:00 p.m.
