The Salvation Army is one week into it’s 2017 Christmas Kettle Campaign and has raised $25,512.61.

This is down from last year when the group managed $29,066.59, a difference of $3553.98.

In the same timeframe in 2015, the group raised $28,772; and in 2014, the group managed $20,000.

This is not in anyway the fault of the people of Prince George, according to Business Manager Bill Glasgow.

“People are always willing to give in this town which is a great thing and why I love Prince George,” he says.

“If the kettle isn’t manned, it’s sitting in the broom closet at the location or behind customer service so people can’t put money into the kettle.”

A slow start is nothing new for the Kettle Campaign.

“Usually in the first week, people think it’s just Remembrance Day and they don’t think about the kettles right away,” Glasgow explains.

“We’ll see a big boost in our scheduling in the next little while; all the gaps will be filled in the next week or two, I bet.”

The initiative runs until December 23rd and raises money for all of the organization’s operations for next year.
