Prince George has officially declared a ‘snow event’ due to the recent snowfall in the last 24 hours.
The City Yard and Water Treament Plant has measured nearly 90 millimetres since Tuesday afternoon, which means Priorities One and Two are in effect, taking care of areas like the Hart region, College Heights, and Blackburn.

City Roads and Fleet Manager Blake McIntosh says operators will be plowing and salting in other major areas.
“These include main arterials, the downtown core, priority hills, in and around the hospital district, and bus routes not on main roads. We will have a full complement of City forces and independent contract forces working out there, such as graders, loaders, truck plows, and sanders in keeping everything clear.”
In order to implement Priority Number Three, McIntosh says more has to come down within the same period.
“A snow event would need to be 120 millimetres exceeded in accumulation. Being that we only had around 85 millimetres, we’re not invoking the time frames for Priority Three routes right now.”

However, he adds once Priorities One and Two are complete with in the next 48 hours, the snow operations team will then move on to residential roads.
Winter parking restrictions are also in place to make room for snow plows.
