The 24th annual Festival of Trees kicks off tomorrow at the Prince George Civic Centre.
The festival has become the biggest annual fundraiser for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation since its inception in 1994.
“This brings in a contribution of about $4.5 million alone going to equipment directly,” explains CEO Judy Neiser.
“It stays local 100% and goes into equipment for patients that live at home in the area that we work, live, and play.”
This year’s theme is “Merry and Bright” with proceeds focusing on one specific area of the University Hospital of Northern BC.
“We’re raising funds for our breast tomosynthesis machine,” Neiser says.
“Our goal this year is to complete that piece of equipment for the breast imaging clinic here at UHNBC.”
Opening the festivities will be the returning fashion show, other returning events include the Santa Breakfast on November 26th, two Dinner and Dance events on November 25th and December 2nd, and the signature Gala Auction Night on December 1st.
Last year’s Gala Auction Night raised over $225,000 in 15 minutes.
One new activity this year including “Little Houses”, which is a play on the gingerbread house display but includes any smaller house such as a dollhouse or birdhouse.
