–The Vancouver Giants scored three times on the power play and added another shorthanded to wallop the Prince George Cougars 6-1. The Giants took control with three unanswered goals in the second period and added two more in the third. Vancouver outshot P.G. 39-21, including 15-3 in the final frame. The Cats split their weekend road games as they won 6-2 Saturday in Spokane. The 3-4 Cougars host the 1-3-0-1 Lethbridge Hurricanes Wednesday and the 4-2 Giants on Friday and Saturday.

–The Cariboo Cougars split a pair of 3-2 decisions against the Greater Vancouver Canadians. The Canadians won Saturday before Cariboo came back with the win Sunday, thanks to a pair of unanswered power play goals in the 3rd. The Cariboo Cats are 4-1-1 while the Canadians sit 4-2. The Cougars travel to Nanaimo to play the North Island Silvertips on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The Midget Cats next home game is Oct. 25 when the South Island Royals come to Kin 1 for a 7:15 p.m. game.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings earned three out of a possible four points in their home doubleheader against the Chilliwack Chiefs. The Spruce Kings won 6-4 Friday before 1,424 fans, but the Chiefs came back with a 2-1 victory in overtime Saturday in front of a crowd of 1,182. The 5-1-0-1 Spruce Kings host 2-3-0-1 Langley Thursday and Friday. Chilliwack is 5-1, a point behind Prince George in the BCHL Mainland Division.

–The UNBC Timberwolves swept a home doubleheader for the first time in Canada West men’s soccer. The UNBC men beat the Trinity Western University Spartans 5-3
Saturday and 1-0 Sunday in their final home action of the season. In women’s play, TWU outscored the Lady Timberwolves twice; 2-0 Saturday and 4-1 Sunday. The standings have the UNBC men’s soccer team at 3-7 (6th place out of 7 in the Pacific Division). The UNBC women remain winless at 0-8-2. The Timberwolves conclude their season with a doubleheader Friday and Saturday in Kamloops against the TRU WolfPack.

–The UNBC basketball teams played three exhibition games each in Edmonton as preparation for their regular season which begins at home Nov 7th and 8th against TRU. The UNBC men finished with a 2-1 record while the Lady Timberwolves basketball team ended up 1-2. The UNBC men beat Red Deer 84-65 and NAIT 88-67 before losing to Mount Royal 82-71. The UNBC women lost 59-40 to MacEwan and 70-39 to Alberta before a 63-59 win over Red Deer.

–A pair of lopsided games in the Northern High School Football League as the Duchess Park Condors dumped Nechako Valley 42-8 and Correlieu of Quesnel whipped College Heights 54-7.
