Both Duchess Park and College Heights won their match in the round of 16 to advance to the quarter-finals tonight at the provincial boys AA volleyball championship in Langley.

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

Kelowna Rockets      5        Prince George Cougars       3

The Rockets scored three unanswered goals in the first period and are 4-0 against the Cougars this season.

The 9-13-2-2 Cougars, who have dropped their last four, host the Vancouver Giants Friday and Saturday.

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

Dorrin Luding of Prince George was in net for the Thunderbirds stopping 31 of 35 shots.

He gave up the game winning goal with 29 seconds left in the third period.

The Prince George Spruce Kings have a pair of home games this weekend.

The 14-10-2-3 Spruce Kings entertain the 14-10-3-1 Victoria Grizzlies Friday and the 12-13-3 Salmon Arm Silverbacks Saturday.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars hold their Eighth annual Jameson Jones Night in support of the BC Children’s Hospital Saturday at 4PM when they host the Okanagan Rockets.

The two Major Midget teams also meet Sunday at 10AM at Kin 1.

 

NHL:

Carey Price 27 saves; he is 3-0 and has allowed only two goals on 102 shots since he returned from an injury.

The 30-year-old from Anahim Lake, BC began the season 3-7-1 with a 3.77 goals-against-average (GAA).

The 11-10-4 Vancouver Canucks visit the 15-6-3 Nashville Predators tonight to conclude a six game road trip.

The Predators are 9-1-1 on home ice; the Canucks have dropped their last three.

 

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL:

The Duchess Park Condors went 0-3 and the College Heights Cougars 1-2 in the power pool round robin at the Provincial Boys AA Volleyball Championship in Langley.

Duchess Park (Fourth in Group A) will play Langley Fundamental (First in Group D) today (9AM) and College Heights (Third in Group B) will face WL Seaton (Second in Group C) (11AM) in the round of 16 with the winners to advance to the quarter-finals tonight.

Play runs until Saturday.

College Heights is seeded sixth and host Nechako Valley 15th at the 16-team BC Girls AA Volleyball championship in Vanderhoof.

Round robin play begins today at 10:30AM.

The gold medal match is scheduled for Saturday night at 6:30.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The UNBC Timberwolves play the TRU Wolfpack Friday and Saturday in Kamloops in Canada West basketball.

It’s the final league action games prior to the Christmas break.

The UNBC men are 4-6, while the Lady Timberwolves sit 3-7.

TRU is 3-7 (men) and 6-4 (women).

 

NFL:

An NFC East match-up to begin week 13 of the NFL season.

The Washington Redskins visit the Dallas Cowboys in the Thursday night game.

Both teams are 5-6.

 

NBA:

Toronto Raptors          126             Charlotte Hornets       113

At the 20-game mark, the Raptors are 13-7 and fourth in the Eastern Conference.
