The Spruce Kings battled a tough Victoria offense Friday night, having not beaten the Grizzlies since November of 2011.

Goaltender Evan DeBrouwer’s 30-save performance however was the key in hanging on to a one-goal lead and the eventual 2-1 victory on home ice.

Prince George rookie Ryan Stack got his second goal the season less than six minutes into the contest, while veteran Ethan de Jong potted his 12th of the year near the mid-way mark of the middle frame.

Victoria lone goal came early in the third, but the Spruce Kings’ defense would pull through for the team’s 15th win of the year.

DeBrouwer says his team held a strong presence from start to finish.

“There were times when I was able to make the big stops, and then there were times where my defencemen bailed me out. I think as long as we stay out of the penalty box more, we’ll be fine, but aside from that, I thought we played an excellent game.”

Prince George improves to 15-10-2-3 for second place in the Mainland Division, and 4-1 on their current eight-game homestand.

Spruce Kings will finish another back-to-back home series at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA) tonight, 7PM against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
