Spruce Kings look to Drop the Mitts and Sock it to ’em

For about 25 years, the Prince George Spruce Kings and Saint Vincent de Paul have worked together to gather warm clothing donations for the holiday season.

The annual event is called Drop the Mitts and Sock it to ‘Em.

When the Spruce Kings score their first goal, fans are asked to throw new socks, gloves, mitts, scarves, toques, and other warm clothing onto the ice in a plastic bag.

“They are delivered to Saint Vincent de Paul and we give them out at the Christmas Dinner as a little gift,” says SVDP President Bernie Goold.

This event really helps during the chilly season, according to Goold.

“There’s nothing that warms a heart better than a pair of warm socks when your feet are really cold so we like to give them away daily, or whenever people need them.”

The Spruce Kings take on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at 7:00pm Friday night.
