Downtown theft from vehicle leads to RCMP arrest

Prince George RCMP are reminding the public to never leave valuable items inside their cars after a well-known offender was arrested Thursday night on counts of theft.

Police have local resident Kurt Steinhauser in custody after stealing a backpack and several electronic devices from a car along 4th Avenue near Ontario street.

The 35-year-old attempted to flee on a bike, but was caught by Mounties.

According to police prior to the incident, Steinhauser was already facing trial for previous counts of theft, possession of stolen property, and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He is scheduled to appear in court later today.

RCMP are asking the public to take everything out of their cars if parked outside, especially during this time of year.

This is also in response to a recent series of theft and property crimes along George Street in the downtown area.

Anyone with more information on this or similar incidents is asked to call the Prince George RCMP at (250) 561-3300, or Crime-Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
