Silvertips aren’t crying Wolf after blanking the Cougars

A 50 save effort from 16-year-old rookie Taylor Gauthier wasn’t nearly enough for the Prince George Cougars who were skunked 4-0 by the Silvertips in Everett.

Another 16-year-old rookie, Dustin Wolf, made 31 saves for his first WHL shutout as Everett outshot Prince George 54-31.

Riley Sutter scored twice and added an assist for the Silvertips who scored twice in the second period and two more in the third.

Everett was 1-for-4 on the power play and they scored a shorthanded goal from Patrick Bajkov late in the second.

P.G. went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

“This is a tough building to play in, but we have to put our will ahead of skill. We let it get away last night (Friday) in the third period and that just carried on to tonight. This league is too good and the players in this league are just too good and if you’re not willing to work you’re probably not going to win many hockey games,” said a dejected Cougars head coach Richard Matvichuk on the 94.3 the Goat post-game show.

The 12-16-3-2 Cougars, who fell 5-3 Friday in Seattle, are last in the B.C. Division and Western Conference.

They are three points behind Seattle, four back of Kamloops and trail Vancouver by nine.

Prince George will play the Giants today (4PM) in Langley in its final game prior to the Christmas break.
