The Pacific Autism Family Centre held its first annual Quiet Santa Time in Prince George.
This event is a way to provide kids with special needs a quiet, sensory friendly space where they can meet Santa.
Northern Coordinator for Autism BC Corey Walker says he knew other places in BC were holding this event and he wanted to test it out himself.
“I decided I was tired 
of being outdone by the other communities so I took advantage of the fact we got this new Pacific Autism Family Centre and, even though they haven’t officially opened yet, they are kind enough to let us use the space and I thought this was great we got a good space that’s designed for people with autism, so lets do it.”
Providing an isolated area is better for kids who have special needs.
“A lot of noise like lights, loud music, that sort of thing can be very over stimulating and can be very intimidating. It will make them uncomfortable and make them not want to come. So that’s why we don’t have music here, that’s why it’s a very quite space with the door closed.”
If this event is successful they will be looking at expanding it into other holidays, like Halloween and Easter.
