Bo Didur stopped 39 shots to lead the visiting Langley Rivermen to a 2-0 victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings before just 736 fans. The 3-3-0-1 Rivermen scored twice in the second period, just 1:40 apart. The 5-2-0-1 Spruce Kings outshot the guests 39-24. The same teams meet again tonight (Friday) at 7 at the PG Coliseum.

–The Prince George Cougars have reassigned 19-year-old defenseman Raymond Grewal to the Prince George Spruce Kings and 18-year-old forward Lance Yaremchuk to the Flin Flon Bombers of the SJHL. Grewal did not play in the Spruce Kings 2-0 loss Thursday to Langley. The Cougars roster is down to 24 (two goalies, eight defencemen and 14 forwards) as they get set to entertain the 4-2 Vancouver Giants tonight (Friday) and Saturday.

–Prince George Cougars minority owner Eric Brewer was a healthy scratch in the Tampa Bay Lightning season opening 3-2 OT victory over the Florida Panthers. “It’s been a long time,” Brewer told reporters. It’s their decision. I don’t like it.” Lightning Coach Jon Cooper, who is from Prince George, acknowledged that the 35-year-old Brewer was angry about the decision. Brewer has played 15 seasons and logged 965 career NHL games.

–Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brett Connolly of PG played just 11 minutes and 16 seconds against the Panthers. The 22-year-old Connolly was minus-1 with no points.

–In the BCMML: The 4-1-1 Cariboo Cougars play in Nanaimo Saturday and Sunday against the North Island Silvertips.

–The UNBC Timberwolves conclude their season in Canada West Soccer as they visit the last place TRU WolfPack tonight (Friday) and Saturday in Kamloops. The UNBC men are in 6th place out of 7 in the Pacific Division with a 3-7 record, ahead of the 0-7-1 WolfPack. The Lady Timberwolves are also 7th at 0-8-2 in front of 0-8 TRU.

–Eight teams, all from Prince George, compete in the Jon Bragg Senior Boys Volleyball Tournament at College Heights Secondary. The gold medal match is slated for 3pm Saturday.
