BC, Quebec lead the way for growth in job vacancies

When it comes to growth in job vacancy, British Columbia and Quebec top the list in Canada for 2017’s third quarter.

This is according to a report done by Statistics Canada.

On a year-over-year basis for B.C., job vacancies shot up by 16,000 (+20.2%); while the job vacancy rate rose to 4.2%, up from the 3.6% in 2016’s third quarter.

“In the third quarter of 2017, there were an estimated 2,105 job vacancies in the economic region of Cariboo,” explains Labour Statists Senior Analyst Myriam Hazel.

“This represents an increase of about 400 vacancies or +26%.”

Trades affected the numbers more than anything else.

“By sector, job vacancies in Cariboo were up in several sectors including healthcare and social assistance,” Hazel says.

“Looking at occupation, job vacancies in the economic region of Cariboo increased notably in occupations related to trades, transport, and equipment operators; there was an increase in that occupation group of 300.”

The average offered wage for the region was $20.60 in the third quarter, compared to the provincial average of $18.95.

Compared to the rest of the country, B.C. owned the lowest unemployment-to-vacancy ratio.
