Boiler breaks down, forces Aquatic Centre evacuation

The Prince George Aquatic Centre was temporarily evacuated Monday night after a smoky boiler set off the fire alarms.

Fire Rescue from three different halls got to the pool around 8:30PM to reports of “significant smoke” coming from the facility’s mechanical room.

The boiler was shut down, crews eventually determined the machine had malfunctioned, and they were able to clear the smoke quickly.

The public was evacuated to the nearby soccer clubhouse until officials allowed them back inside.

No injuries were reported, and the Aquatic Centre will return to its normal operating schedule today.
