Mayor Lyn Hall A Finalist For Sports Tourism Award

Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall has received a national nomination.

The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) has selected him for the ‘Champion’ category, which recognizes elected officials for their contributions to sports tourism in their community.

Hall says he’s surprised by the nod, but is also proud for what his city has accomplished in the last three years.

“I was always part of my message from the 2015 Canada Winter Game on, that we were wanting large national, provincial, and even international events to take place here in Prince George and I think we proved that we could take on that challenge.”

He says the Telus Cup last year also brought major tourism, bringing a national eye on the Northern Capital.

Even having the Prince George Cougars as part of the Western Hockey League (WHL) also puts the city on the map.

“It means a lot to have a WHL franchise in our city,” explains Mayor Hall.

“The Cariboo Cougars are also another great addition; we have such a great soccer organization, a great football organization, the UNBC Timberwolves basketball and soccer teams. It’s because of all of these groups that are key to making that happen.”

The CSTA’s awards luncheon takes place in Halifax in March.

Mayor Hall is one of three finalists, which include Ottawa Tourism Manager for Major Events Darrell Cox and Canadian Relations & Canadian Francophonie Minister Jean-Marc Fournier.
