PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars are now 10 points out of a playoff spot after the Spokane Chiefs doubled the Swift Current Broncos 4-2 Tuesday night.

The Chiefs and Tri-City Americans, with 53 points, hold down the two Western Conference wild-card berths.

The 18-23-4-3 Cougars, who have 43 points, hit the road for a six-game trip to the Prairies beginning Friday in Prince Albert and continues Saturday in Saskatoon.

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings scoring leader Ethan de Jong did not pick up a point, but he was on the winning side in the CJHL Prospects Game in Mississauga, Ontario.

De Jong was part of Team West that scored a 5-2 victory over Team East.

The Spruce Kings play Friday in Langley to begin a three-game, three-day road trip.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars visit the last place (3-22-3) South Island Royals Friday and Saturday afternoon in Victoria.

The 21-5-2 Major Midget Cougars are just two points behind the (22-4-2) Valley West Hawks in the race for first place in the BCMML.

NHL:

Canucks took control early by scoring four first period goals in just nine minutes.

Brock Boeser tallied twice on the power-play to give him a team leading 24 goals.

The 19-23-6 Canucks host Buffalo Thursday in their final game prior to the All-Star break.

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The UNBC Timberwolves close out their regular season in Canada West basketball with home games Friday and Saturday night against the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades (UFV).

The Timberwolves are in 10th place with an 8-10 record in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

The top 12 make the playoffs.

The Cascades are is 5-11 (men) and 6-10 (women).

LeBron James became the seventh player to enter the 30,000-point club and also the youngest at 33 years and 24 days, but the Cavaliers lost for the eighth time in their last 11 games.

The 34-14 Celtics lead in the Eastern Conference is down to just one-and-a-half games over Toronto.

The 31-14 Raptors visit the 14-32 Atlanta Hawks tonight.
