McBride sawmill could re-open as early as February

A cedar sawmill in Northern BC is almost ready to open once again after a fire last Spring burnt it to the ground.

In the last few months, BKB Manufacturing has constructed a new building in McBride, and has confirmed it will be opening soon after being destroyed by a big blaze in April 2017.

An overheated electrical motor was to the apparent cause of the incident as McBride volunteer firefighters worked day and night for nearly two weeks trying to extinguish the flames.

“Right now, we’re trying to install the facility’s new main power source,” says spokesperson Raj Basran.

“It could take a little longer than we thought, but we’re hoping in the next few weeks, we can be back in business for the community and the region.”

Basran could not confirm an official re-opening date for BKB, but believes as early as the first full week of February is a strong possibility.
