PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars are in Brandon to face the Wheat Kings tonight before concluding their Prairie road trip Saturday in Moose Jaw against the WHL-leading Warriors.

The 28-17-3-2 Wheat Kings have dropped eight straight.

The 18-26-4-4 Cougars have been outscored 18-6 during a four game losing skid on the trip.

The Cougars, with 20 games left, have their next home games on February 9th and 10th against the Kamloops Blazers.

BC DIVISION STANDINGS:

Kelowna, 50 games = 32-14-3-1 (68 points)
Victoria, 52 games = 30-18-3-1  (64 points)
Vancouver, 50 games = 26-16-5-3 (60 points)
Kamloops, 51 games = 24-24-1-2 (51 points)
Prince George, 52 games = 18-26-4-4 (44 points)

WESTERN CONFERENCE WILD CARD:

Seattle, 50 games = 26-18-4-2 (58 points)
Spokane, 50 games = 26-19-3-2 (57 points)

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings host the 22-19-2-3 Chilliwack Chiefs tonight and Saturday to begin a five-game home-stand.

The 25-15-4-4 Spruce Kings lead the Mainland Division by three points over Surrey, four over Langley and by nine over Chilliwack.

Surrey lost 6-0 Thursday against Coquitlam.

MAINLAND DIVISION STANDINGS:

Prince George, 48 games = 25-15-4-4 (58 points)
Surrey, 49 games = 24-18-5-2 (55 points)
Langley, 48 games = 21-15-10-2 (54 points)
Chilliwack, 46 games = 22-19-2-3 (49 points)
Coquitlam, 48 games = 14-30-1-3 (32 points)

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars visit the 16-12-1-1 Greater Vancouver Canadians Saturday at 5PM and Sunday at 10AM in Richmond.

The 23-5-2-0 Major Midget Cougars are in second place, just a point behind the 23-4-2-1 Valley West Hawks.

Valley West is idle this weekend.

The Canadians are tied for 4th in the 11-team league alongside the Vancouver NW Giants and the Okanagan Rockets, although the Giants and Rockets have played two less games.

Brendan Gaunce scored twice for the Canucks, who have won back-to-back home games for just the second time this season.

The 21-24-6 Canucks are 3-1 on a five-game home-stand which concludes Saturday against league-leading Tampa.

CANADIAN WOMEN’S CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS:

BC (Kesa Van Osch) is 4-5 in the Championship Pool and out of contention for a Page Playoff spot at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Penticton.

BC dropped both games on Thursday; 10-3 to Manitoba in the afternoon and 6-5 to Wildcard in the evening.

Wild-card Kerri Einarson leads the Championship Pool standings at 8-1 followed by Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Alberta at 7-2.

Northern Ontario is 6-3, Canada sits 5-4 with BC and Ontario 4-5.

The top four rinks advance to the Page Playoffs which begin on Saturday.

BC plays Nova Scotia this afternoon at 2 and Northern Ontario tonight at 7 in its final two games.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The Canada West basketball regular season will wrap up this weekend.

The UNBC Timberwolves, who are preparing for the playoffs which start February 9th, have the bye.

The UNBC men had a 10-10 record, while the Lady Timberwolves finished 9-11.

 

NBA:

Washington Wizards    122      Toronto Raptors    119

The 34-16 Raptors are two games behind the 37-15 Eastern Conference leading Boston Celtics.

Toronto will host the 29-22 Portland Trail Blazers tonight.

NFL:

As expected, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will play in Sunday’s Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Gronk” has been cleared from the concussion protocol and participated fully in practice on Thursday.
