Megan Tandy of Prince George finished 57th out of 87 in the women’s Biathlon 7.5km Sprint at the Olympics.

The 29-year-old Tandy advances to the women’s Pursuit on Monday.

Jamie Macdonald of Fort. St. James is out of contention in ladies’ 500 meters short-track speedskating after she fell in the preliminary race.

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

Power forward Jermaine Loewen snapped a 2-2 tie when he scored his 26th goal of the season on the power play with just 40 seconds left in the third period.

The Cougars went 0-for-5 on the power play, including a five minute advantage that started midway through the final period.

Ilijah Colina and Kjell Kjemhuis (1st WHL goal) tallied for the (19-28-4-4) Cougars in the first period, 51 seconds apart, before an announced home crowd of 2,901.

Same teams meet again tonight at CN Centre.

Evan DeBrouwer made just 15 saves, including one in the third period, for the shutout before 917 fans in Prince George.

The Spruce Kings are 6-0 against last place Coquitlam this season, and the two teams meet again tonight at the RMCA.

The (28-15-4-4) Spruce Kings are on the verge of winning their division for the first time in the BCHL; they enjoy a nine point lead over Surrey and 10 over Langley with just seven to play.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars host the (8-18-0-4) Kootenay Ice today at 4PM and Sunday at 10AM at Kin 1 in their final regular season home games.

The (24-5-3-0) Cougars are tied with the (24-4-2-1) Valley West Hawks for first place, although the Hawks have a game in hand.

Kootenay is three points out of a playoff spot.

 

NHL:

The (21-28-6) Canucks are 0-and-3 on a four game road trip that wraps up Sunday in Dallas.

OLYMPICS:

The first medals of the PyeongChang, South Korea 2018 Olympic Winter Games will be handed out this weekend.

Canada has won its five of its first six games in mixed doubles curling.

Megan Tandy of Prince George is entered in today’s Biathlon women’s 7.5km Sprint.

Meryeta O’Dine of PG competes Thursday night (PT) in the Ladies’ Snowboard Cross.

In total, 63 out of 225 athletes (28%) on Team Canada either lived or trained in BC at some point.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The UNBC Timberwolves are preparing for the Canada West men’s basketball quarter-finals.

The Timberwolves visit the 19-1 Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton on Friday, February 16th (2PM Pacific), Saturday the 17th (1PM Pacific), and, if necessary, on Sunday the 18th (1PM Pacific).

The UNBC women’s basketball team had its season end following a 82-65 loss to the University of Winnipeg in a first round playoff game.

 

NBA:

The Toronto Raptors play their next game Sunday in Charlotte against the Hornets.

The (38-16) Raptors are just 1/2 a game behind the first place (40-17) Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference.
