2018 Jeanne Clark awards take place tomorrow night

Honouring books that highlight local history will be recognized tomorrow at the PG Library.

The 33rd Annual Jeanne Clark awards is a project put on by the local history committee at the library board, where they summarize all the books nominated.

“Jay Sherwood, who is a past nominee, and he was nominated this year for his book Ootsa Lake Odyssey. We also have the Retired Teachers Association are nominated. Carol Harrison, a former nurse, is nominated for her book Miller Bay Indian Hospital. So, there’s a number of nominees, 10 in total, and we will be presenting awards for regional and local publications” says Spokeswomen Amy Dhanjal.

The name of the award ceremony also has some history behind it.

“Jeanne Clark was a long time Prince George resident and she was also fundamental in establishing the library boards local committee, she herself was a board members, and so, they thought it was a great way to honour her legacy at the library by naming these awards in her honour,” added Dhanjal.

This year the event is at capacity and will be held Sunday night in the Bob Harkins branch from 7pm until 10pm.
