One year away until the World Para Nordic Championships arrive in the Northern Capital

The countdown is on until 140 athletes arrive in Prince George.

Starting today we are one year away from hosting the World Para Nordic Championships at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.

Canadian wheelchair racer and MLA Michelle Stilwell visited the centre, and highlighted the importances of making the venue more accessible.

“By hosting an event like this it, kind of, raises the bar of expectation of what is acceptable and what is tolerable and will force the community to make those changes that will break down the barriers and create more inclusion for all members to have that lasting legacy.”

This a great opportunity for the ski club and the city to make an impression.

“It’s the potential of what can come from hosting a sporting event like the World Championships. To be the first Canadian city to host a Para Nordic and to have the first ever World Championship event in Prince George is something that the community can embrace.”

Past President of the Ski Club Kevin Peterson says their goal is to make sure the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club isn’t forgotten once the games end.

“The IPC is looking for permanent venues for their World Championships. When we look at hosting this World Championship our is for every four years to host.”

The 2019 Para Nordic Championships take place from February 16 until the 24th.
