Downtown student housing could be on the way

The College of New Caledonia presented to Prince George City Council Monday night talking about a variety of topics such as international students and funding.

One major issue discussed was student housing, specifically in the downtown area.

“The thought is that if we build a residence downtown that means more people will be downtown,” explains CNC President Henry Reiser.

“It’s an opportunity for urban revitalization, if you wish, of the city core.”

These talks have been ongoing for about two and a half years.

“The city has been very accommodating, very supportive,” Reiser says.

“We have a number of proposals that I can’t talk about with the city right now.”

Reiser would not give any details on the proposals, saying it is not ready to be announced.

He also notes the University of Northern BC has also been at the table for talks on student housing in the downtown.
