PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings season is on the line when they host the Surrey Eagles tonight.

The Eagles lead the best-of-seven Mainland Division final 3-1.

The Spruce Kings have only scored three times (on Surrey goalie Mario Cavaliere) in the last three games after notching nine goals in the opener.

PG outshot Surrey 99-34 over the first two games at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).

Tickets ($15 for Adults, and $12 for Students 6-18, and Seniors 55+) for Game Five are on sale at the Spruce Kings office today from 9AM to 5PM.

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

The Prince George Cougars will pick 9th and 21st in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft May 3rd in Red Deer.

The Prince Albert Raiders have the third overall pick which was acquired in a 2016 trade with Prince George.

The Cougars acquired their two first round picks in trades this year with Prince Albert and Swift Current.

The Edmonton Oil Kings have the first overall selection followed by the Kootenay Ice after Kootenay moved up two spots in the league’s Draft lottery which will held in Calgary.

The Oil Kings finished with the league’s worst record.

The WHL playoffs open tonight with Tri-City at Kelowna.

Six series will start Friday: Vancouver at Victoria, Seattle at Everett, Prince Albert at Moose Jaw, Regina at Swift Current, Red Deer at Lethbridge, and Brandon at Medicine Hat.

The other best-of-seven Conference quarter-final will begin on Saturday with Spokane at Portland.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The defending BCMML champion Cariboo Cougars will host the Vancouver NE Chiefs in a best of three semi-final series at Kin 1.

Games will be played Friday night at 6, Saturday afternoon at 4 and if needed, Sunday morning at 10.

The other semi has the Vancouver NW Giants at the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in Langley (Friday and Saturday night at 7 and Sunday afternoon, if necessary, at 2.

 

MINOR HOCKEY:

The host Prince George Viking Construction Cougars are 0-4 in the BC Hockey PeeWee Tier 1 Provincial Championship at Kin 1.

PG, coming off a 2-0 Wednesday night loss to Victoria, plays its last game of the six-team tournament this afternoon at 1:30 against Kelowna.

The gold medal game tonight at 7:30 features Burnaby against Victoria.

Prince George also lost 6-2 to Kamloops and 9-2 to Semiahmoo on Monday and 9-1 to Burnaby on Tuesday.

Several Prince George Minor Hockey rep teams are competing out-of-town this week at Provincials.

  • PG is 3-0-1, and tied for first with Vancouver, at Midget Tier 1 in Fort St. John (3-3 tie vs. Vancouver, 5-4 win over North East, 4-3 win over East Kootenay, 4-2 win over Burnaby). Prince George faces Central Zone at 4:30 PM today and Saanich at 10:45 AM Friday. Top two teams face off for gold Friday at 7:30 PM in the seven-team tournament.
  • The PG Midget Tier 2 Cougars have advanced to the Provincial final tonight at 7:30 in Quesnel. PG finished the round robin 4-1-1 after a 5-3 win this morning over the Thompson Zone. (In earlier results for PG in the seven team tournament: 7-4 loss to Cowichan; 6-1 win over Coquitlam, 2-2 tie vs. Quesnel, 5-3 win over Port Moody, 10-1 over Fort St. John).
  • PG is 2-1-1 at Bantam Tier 1 in Nanaimo (1-1 tie vs. Victoria, 3-1 win over Yukon, 4-1 loss to Seafair, 6-0 win over Nanaimo). Prince George advances to the final of the eight-team tournament tonight at 8 against Seafair.
  • PG is 1-4 at Bantam Tier 2 in West Vancouver (4-2 loss to South Zone, 3-2 loss to Port Moody, 4-2 win over Langley, 6-1 loss to Fort St. John, 6-1 loss to Campbell River). PG plays its final game at 1:30PM today against host Hollyburn.
  • PG is 1-1 at Bantam Female in Vancouver (3-2 loss to Kelowna, 5-3 win over Vancouver. Their next game in the six-team round robin will be today at 1:30PM against Langley)
  • PG is at PeeWee Female in Dawson Creek (First game in the six team tournament will be at 4PM today against Kelowna)
  • PG finished 0-4, without scoring a goal, at PeeWee Tier 2 in North Shore (4-0 loss to Fort St. John, 5-0 loss to Cranbrook, 10-0 loss to Vernon, 13-0 loss to North Shore)

The Vancouver Canucks continue a four-game road trip tonight in Chicago.

The (30-35-9) Blackhawks are out of the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

The (25-39-9) Canucks are riding a seven-game losing streak.

Vancouver, with nine games left, is last in the Western Conference, two points behind Arizona.

The Canucks are also second last in the overall NHL standings, just a point ahead of Buffalo.

The Sabres also have nine games remaining.

 

BIATHLON:

Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member Sarah Beaudry of Prince George placed fourth in the women’s 7.5 km sprint at the Canadian biathlon championships in Charlo, N.B.

The 24-year-old Beaudry was 1 ½ minutes behind the winner Rosanna Crawford of Canmore, Alta.

Emily Dickson of Burns Lake captured silver in the junior women’s 7.5 km sprint while Cole Bender of Burns Lake took gold in the senior boys 6 km sprint.

 

CURLING:

Canada is 9-0, with a guaranteed playoff spot, at the Ford world women’s curling championship in North Bay, Ontario after an 8-7 victory today over Russia.

On Wednesday, Canada doubled Korea 8-4 and handed Sweden its first loss, also 8-4.

The Jennifer Jones rink from Winnipeg has its next round robin game today against Italy (4PM PT).

 

NBA:

Cleveland Cavaliers  132  Toronto Raptors  129

The loss ended Toronto’s nine-game road win streak.

The (53-19) Raptors lead the Eastern Conference by 4 1/2 games over the (48-23) Boston Celtics.
