Inspector Syd Lecky has been named the new Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP.
Beginning his career in 1996, Insp. Lecky was posted throughout the province making stops in Kelowna, Gold River, and Terrace before making his way to the northern capital in 2008.
The then sergeant served as an Advisory Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of the Aboriginal Policing program throughout the north. In the role, Lecky worked with First Nations communities and local detachments looking to ensure a high quality of service for northern Aboriginal Communities. He also spent three years a Mackenzie RCMP Detachment Commander before returning to Terrace in 2013.
“I am excited to work with City of Kamloops, residents, businesses and those agencies working with marginalized persons to enhance and champion initiatives that will keep our community safe,” said Insp. Syd Lecky in a statement.
“As a proud member of the Passamaquoddy Nation, I also look forward to working with the Shuswap Nation served by the Kamloops Detachment including Skeetchestn, Tk’emlúps, and the Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band.
Insp. Lecky will be formally promoted to the Superintendent rank once he assumes the role in Kamloops. No formal start date has been established.
