PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings are 5-0 when facing elimination.

The Wenatchee Wild sit a perfect 10-0 at home in the playoffs, having outscored the opposition 48-18.

Something will have to give when the Spruce Kings visit the Wild tonight in Game Five of the Fred Page Cup Final.

Wenatchee enjoys a 3-1 series lead and with one more victory will become the first American team to capture the BCHL title since the 1979 Bellingham Blazers.

In each of the first four games, the winning team has scored four goals.

Prince George is just 3-7 on the road in the playoffs, picking up one away victory in each of its first three series.

If the Spruce Kings win, it forces a sixth game back in Prince George on Saturday.

The BCHL champion advances to the Doyle Cup starting April 27th against the winner of the AJHL, either the Spruce Grove Saints or the Okotoks Oilers.

The Doyle Cup winner will qualify for the RBC National Junior ‘A’ Championship May 12th to 20th in Chilliwack.

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

The WHL Final Four starts with a pair of games on Friday; Tri-City Americans at the Everett Silvertips in the Western Conference and the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Swift Current Broncos in the Eastern Conference.

The Hurricanes won each of their first two series in five games, while the Broncos needed seven games to eliminate their first two opponents.

The Americans are 8-0 in the playoffs while the Silvertips are 8-2.

Lethbridge sniper Brad Morrison of Prince George leads the WHL playoff scoring race with 29 points (12G, 17A) in just 10 post-season games.

Morgan Geekie (15 goals) and Michael Rasmussen (10 goals) of Tri-City each have 24 points in eight playoff games.

There are a pair of Stanley Cup playoff games tonight and both are in the Eastern Conference: Boston at Toronto (4:00) and Washington at Columbus (4:30).

The Bruins leads the Leafs 2-1 and the Blue Jackets are also up 2-1 over the Capitals.

According to Bodog, the Vegas Golden Knights are the 9/2 favourites to win the Stanley Cup.

The Nashville Predators are next at 5/1 followed by the Tampa Bay Lightning at 11/2.

The Westgate Sportsbook has Vegas and Nashville at 4/1.

 

JUDO-SWIM:

Both the PG Barracudas “Moose” Dental swim meet and the Prince George Judo open tournament will be held this weekend.

Competition in both will start Friday night.

The swimming will conclude Sunday afternoon, while the judo wraps up Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Jays swept the three game series against the last-place Royals.

The 12-5 Blue Jays visit the 8-8 New York Yankees tonight to start a four-game series.

Former Blue Jay Jose Bautista has signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves as a third baseman.

The 37-year-old six-time all-star will reportedly make $1 million should he reach the majors, after earning $18 million last year.
