The goal of this project is to create inter-generational programs and to include Prince George seniors in our everyday activities.
That’s according to a BC government, stating the Northern capital as one of the eight regional communities receiving funding to begin its ‘Active Seniors! Active Communities’ project.
In the amount of $15,000, City staff are set to work with seven local organizations, moving forward with recreational programs, activities, and events, hoping to share respect and gain a learning experience between seniors and youth.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says, in a statement, inclusion is vital between everyone when creating community awareness.
“Seniors spent their lives building our communities. When we make communities age-friendly, we make them more accessible for everyone.”
According to the government, the Prince George Council of Seniors (PGCOS) will help with the development phase of this funding, adding program promotion and a recruitment plan for participation from as many seniors as possible.
The project is part of a $587,000 province-wide funding for 2018 age-friendly grants.
The other seven communities include Quesnel, Fraser Lake, Smithers, Kitimat, Stewart, Fort St. John, and Wells.
