Prince George Inner City fighter Kenny Lally has advanced to the gold medal bout Saturday in the 56 kilos division at the Boxing Canada Elite Championships in Mississauga, Ontario. Lally improved his record to 2-0 with a unanimous decision victory over Rodolfo Valasquez of Hamilton in the semi-finals. (He began the Nationals with a unanimous decision win over Mark Gauthier of Quebec despite suffering a cut over his eye that required eight stitches) The 25-year-old Lally, a five-time National champion, is one of six boxers from B.C., coached by Bob Pegues of Inner City, that will fight for gold.

–The Langley Rivermen scored twice in both the 2nd and 3rd period in a 5-2 triumph over the Prince George Spruce Kings. Ben Butcher notched two goals and two assists for the (6-4-1-3) Rivermen before a tiny crowd of 325 in Langley. PG was outshot 37-25. The (10-6-0-2) Spruce Kings are in 1st place in the BCHL Mainland Division, a point ahead of Chilliwack and six in front of Langley, however both the Chiefs and Rivermen have four games in hand.

–The PG Spruce Kings are idle this weekend. They play their next game on Friday, Nov 7th in Trail and will also visit Merritt on the 8th and West Kelowna on the 9th. The Spruce Kings next home game will go Wednesday, Nov 12th against Vernon.

–The Prince George Cougars have a new goalie. 20-year-old Jared Rathjen, who is from PG, joins the Cougars after he was claimed off of waivers from the Medicine Hat Tigers. Rathjen (6’1”, 187 pounds) has played 74 career games in the WHL with the Victoria Royals and Vancouver Giants. His career record is 20-30-7-1 with a 3.81 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .873. In order to make room for Rathjen, a former Cariboo Cougar, the Cats placed 20-year-old defenceman Wil Tomchuk on waivers. In the meantime, Tomchuk has been reassigned to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the AJHL.

–Just three points separate the 9-7-1 Kamloops Blazers and the 8-8 Prince George Cougars in the standings. The Cougars host the Blazers Saturday at 7 and Sunday at 2.

–Defenceman Brandon Manning of Prince George picked up an assist in his first game this season with the Philadelphia Flyers in a 4-3 loss to Tampa. Manning
finished with 14:09 of ice time. Brett Connolly of PG missed his third straight game for the Lightning with a lower body injury.

–The 9-2-1 Major Midget Cariboo Cougars visit the 2-8 Kootenay Ice Saturday and Sunday. The next home games for the Cougars are scheduled for Nov 8th at 12:45pm and Nov 9th at 1:15pm against the Fraser Valley T-Birds. Cariboo is in 2nd place, a point behind the 10-0 Vancouver NW Giants and the Giants have two games in hand.

–The Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club hosts the BC Team Section Trials for the 2015 Canada Winter Games Saturday and Sunday at Kin I. The top age eligible skaters from across the province will participate. In conjunction with this meet, the Blizzard will also hold the Central Interior Challenge Open and the inaugural Nanguz Cup.
