PG takes part in 7th annual Autism Awareness Walk

Residents gathered at the Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park to take part in the 7th annual Prince George Autism Awareness Walk.

Northern interior autism society(NIAS), AutismBC and Pacific Autism Family Network(PAFN) PG Spoke joined together to organize the event, with the goal of educating and providing support for people affected by and/or living with the disorder.

“We’ve grown from a couple of dozen people to a couple of hundred each year,” says Jordan Oliver, NIAS Director. “Every year it’s growing and it has been great.”

The theme colour for Autism is blue and the organizations brought over 300 balloons to give to kids, so a stream of could be seen walking the pathway.

“This is really getting like-minded people together and say we have a system here that is to support you. Letting families and care-givers know that there’s other people in the community who are facing the same challenges that they are,” added Oliver.

Over the last seven years, 700 people have participated in the event.
