WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

Lehtbridge Hurricanes  5  Swift Current Broncos  1

Broncos lead the Eastern Conference Final 2-1 with game four tonight in Lethbridge.

Another spectacular game for Brad Morrison of Prince George with a hat trick and an assist.

He snapped a 1-1 tie late in the second period.

The 21-year-old Morrison leads the WHL playoff scoring race with 34 points (15G, 19A) in 13 post-season games.

Michael Rasmussen and Morgan Geekie of Tri-City are second and third respectively with 29 and 26 points, although Geekie leads in goals with 16.

The Western Conference Final resumes Thursday in Tri-City with the Everett Silvertips in front of the Americans 2-1.

 

NHL:

The first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs will end tonight with the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Boston Bruins (4:35 PT) in the seventh and deciding game.

The winner will play the Lightning in the Eastern Conference semi-finals beginning Saturday in Tampa.

The second round of the NHL playoffs will open Thursday with Pitsburgh at Washington (4:05), followed by San Jose at Vegas (7:05).

The Winnipeg Jets series against the Predators will begin Friday (5:05) in Nashville.

(Washington has played Pittsburgh 10 times in the playoffs, including second-round losses in each of the past two seasons. The Capitals have lost nine of the 10 series, which includes the past seven)

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings have lost a long-time member of their organization.

Volunteer Equipment Manager Malcolm Poubran passed away at Hospice House following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Poubran spent nearly 40 years with the team.

He was in attendance at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA) for Game Three of the Fred Page Cup Final against the Wenatchee Wild.

 

DOYLE CUP JUNIOR HOCKEY:

The best-of-seven Doyle Cup begins Friday with the Spruce Grove Saints at the Wenatchee Wild.

The Wild advanced by winning the BCHL Fred Page Cup 4-1 over the Prince George Spruce Kings, while Spruce Grove qualified after capturing the AJHL title four games to one over the Okotoks Oilers.

Wenatchee is 11-0 at home in the playoffs, outscoring the opposition 51-18.

The Doyle Cup winner will qualify for the RBC National Junior ‘A’ Championship May 12th to 20th in Chilliwack.

There are four NBA playoff games tonight including Washington at Toronto (4PM). The Wizards and Raptors are tied 2-2.

The other match-ups have Indiana at Cleveland (4PM), Utah at Oklahoma City (6:30) and Minnesota at Houston (6:30).

The Pacers and Cavs are even 2-2, the Jazz enjoy a 3-1 lead over the Thunder and the Rockets are up 3-1 over the Timberwolves.

 

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  4  Boston Red Sox  3  (10 innings)

Curtis Granderson smashed a walk-off homer in the 10th as the Blue Jays began a six-game home-stand.

The 17-5 Red Sox have the best record in the Majors and lead the AL East by three games over the 14-8 Jays.

 

NFL:

The three day NFL Draft begins Thursday.

The Cleveland Browns have the first and fourth overall picks.

At least four quarterbacks are expected to be selected in the first round.

LACROSSE:

The Prince George Senior Lacrosse regular season begins Thursday night at 8 in Quesnel between the host Crossfire and the RPR Mechanical/J.R. Construction Bandits.

Five teams are in the League, down one from last year, as Northland Nissan Assault dropped out.
