NHL: (Two games in the best-of-seven Conference semi-finals)

Washington Capitals  4  Pittsburgh Penguins 1

(Kevin Fiala scored his third goal of the playoffs at 5:37 of the second overtime period. Best of seven Western Conference semi-final tied 1-1 with game three Tuesday night at 5 in Winnipeg)

A pair of NHL playoff games tonight: Boston at Tampa Bay (4PM) followed by Vegas at San Jose (7PM). The Bruins lead the Lightning 1-0 while the Golden Knights and the Sharks are tied 1-1.

The Vancouver Canucks will pick 7th in the June 22nd NHL Draft in Dallas after falling one spot in the lottery.

The Buffalo Sabres won the lottery and will pick first followed by Carolina and Montreal, who both moved up.

The Sabres are expected to select highly touted Swedish defenceman Rasmus Dahlin.

 

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

The sixth games in the WHL Conference Finals will be played tonight.

In the West: Everett, up 3-2, visits Tri-City. The Silvertips are 6-0 on the road in the playoffs.

In the East: Swift Current, ahead 3-2, plays at Lethbridge.

A couple of former PG Cougars, in their last year of junior hockey, are playing a major role with Lethbridge.

Centre Brad Morrison leads the WHL playoff scoring race with 37 points (16G, 21A) in 15 post-season games.

(Michael Rasmussen and Morgan Geekie of Tri-City are second and third respectively with 30 and 27 points)

Defenceman Tate Olson has 18 points (three goals) in 15 games, to go along with a team high +15 rating.

 

DOYLE CUP JUNIOR HOCKEY:

The Wenatchee Wild beat the AJHL champion Spruce Grove Saints 3-2 (Friday in OT) and 3-0 Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Doyle Cup.

The remainder of the series will be played in Spruce Grove starting with game three Tuesday night.

The Wild improved their home playoff record to 13-0, outscoring the opposition 57-20.

Wenatchee advanced by winning the BCHL Fred Page Cup 4-1 over the Prince George Spruce Kings.

The Doyle Cup winner will qualify for the RBC National Junior ‘A’ Championship May 12th to 20th in Chilliwack.

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

Defenseman Dylan Anhorn of the Prince George Spruce Kings has committed to play for Union College in NCAA Division One hockey starting in the 2019/20 season.

Anhorn is the 10th Spruce King from the 2017-18 roster to commit to college, with six of those players returning for the 2018-19 season.

 

VOLLEYBALL:

The PG Red U-15 Girls led the seven Prince George Kodiaks club volleyball teams at the Provincials for 15-and-16 year-olds in Abbotsford.

The Red U-15 Girls earned the bronze medal out of 64 teams.

They lost the semi-final in the third set 15-13 to Kelowna, but came back to beat Whiterock two games to none in the third place match.

The Prince George U-15 boys red team placed fourth.

Next up will be the Club Nationals May 17th to 19th in Edmonton.

GYMNASTICS:

Prince George gymnast Alia Wilson placed sixth overall in her division (including fifth on bars) at the Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Spruce Grove, Alberta.

Wilson also helped Team BC to a first place finish.

 

NBA: (Two playoff games)

(LeBron James 45 points for the Cavs, who win the series 4-3 to advance to the second round against the Raptors starting Tuesday night at 5 in Toronto)

(Rockets lead the Western Conference semi-final 1-0 with game two Wednesday night at 5)

One NBA playoff game this evening as the Philadelphia 76’ers visit the Boston Celtics at 5 in the opener of the Eastern Conference semi-final.

Game two in the Western semi between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Golden State Warriors will be held Tuesday night at 7:30 in Oakland with the Warriors up 1-0.

 

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  7  Texas Rangers  2

The 15-12 Blue Jays begin an eight-game, seven day road trip tonight against the 9-14 Twins in Minnesota.

 

LACROSSE:

The Prince George Senior Lacrosse regular season will continue tonight, 8PM at Kin 1 as the defending champion Westwood Pub Devils take to the floor against the Co-op Petroleum Stylers.
